Text Box: The Centennial Ocean Academy of Science and Technology (C.O.A.S.T) program is a middle school magnet academy that is only offered at Centennial Middle School. The courses offered are designed to provide students with four essential aspects of marine and environmental education in South Florida. These aspects are: a fundamental study of water and its relationship to local, natural and cultural history; recreational skill development through outdoor education; personal and interpersonal development skills leading to effective employability qualities; and an introduction to careers related to seagoing military, marine science technology and maritime occupations.

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Centennial Ocean Academy of Science and Technology (COAST) Program is the advancement of Marine and Environmental Conservation through scientific research, literacy and mathematics education, leading to responsible stewardship and the sustainability of our natural marine resources.

VISION

The stakeholders’ vision for COAST is that the school becomes a locally recognized leader in high school preparatory and marine-related education. To accomplish this ambitious goal, Centennial teachers, staff, parents, and community partners must prepare students to work in proximity to environmental scientists, corporate leaders, and ecotourism industry professionals, conduct original environmental research, compete in regional science competitions, demonstrate unwaveringly the values of honor and integrity, and enter the best high schools in the county.
